What Is Anti-Scratch Lamination?
Anti-scratch lamination is standard BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) lamination — the same gloss or matte film applied to printed surfaces using heat and pressure — with an additional anti-scratch coating on the film surface. It can be applied to one or both sides depending on your project needs.
What sets anti-scratch lamination apart from standard gloss and matte lamination is its significantly increased resistance to scuffing, scratching, and surface abrasion. The anti-scratch coating increases surface hardness, so printed products stay looking pristine for longer — even under repeated handling, stacking, and transit friction. In all other respects — appearance, feel, moisture resistance, structural reinforcement, and paper weight requirements (above 105 gsm) — anti-scratch lamination behaves the same as standard lamination. It’s available in two finishes: gloss and matte. Both offer the same level of scratch protection while delivering very different visual results. Gloss anti-scratch produces a bright, reflective, high-shine finish with vivid, saturated colors — visually identical to standard gloss lamination. Matte anti-scratch delivers a soft, non-reflective, silky finish with subtler, more refined tones — visually identical to standard matte lamination. The anti-scratch coating is optically clear on both, so it doesn’t alter the appearance or affect color accuracy.
Like all BOPP laminates, anti-scratch lamination also adds a layer of protection against moisture and everyday handling. Please note that it requires paper of above 105 gsm — thinner paper will curl or develop wrinkles after lamination.
