Custom Book Slipcase
The book slipcase is a five-sided box, usually made of high-quality cardboard. Book slipcase is most commonly used in edition book sets, coffee table books, binders, and storage of reference materials in the publishing industry, leaving the spine of the book exposed. The slipcase can not only protect the books from dust, light, and damage, and turn the books into a high-end display that stands out on any bookshelf, but also can be used as a decorative collection to add taste to the home. During the process of selling, the books will be very eye-catching, show their unique charm, and attract people’s attention!
The Usage of Book Slipcase
The Composition of a Book Slipcase
The book slipcase is composed of an outside wrapper, a grey board, and an inside wrapper.
Usually, the outside wrapper is a piece of printed paper with lamination outside. The wrapper could be cloth or artificial leather material as well.
The grey board is a piece of thicker board folded into the box shape. Normal thickness of the grey board is 2mm, 2.5mm, and 3mm, depending on the book size, inner page amount, etc.
Usually the inside wrap paper is a blank paper without any printing. The inside wrap paper makes the slipcase look nice when you pick the book out of the case. Some slipcases have thumbs; this part can make the book more convenient to pull out of the slipcase.
Slipcase Cover Options
Printed Coated Paper
Like the normal hardcover book cover, the slipcase cover is a piece of printed paper with matte lamination, gloss lamination, or soft touch lamination outside.
Textured Paper
Textured paper is a special paper with a textured pattern, which has a special natural beauty. It is often used for the cover of a book that pursues artistic beauty.
Cloth
A cloth cover can make your books more high-end, textured, and more special. Some exquisite painting collections, selections of photographic artworks, and coffee table books will use cloth as the cover.
Artificial Leather
Books with artificial leather covers are more luxurious. Some special limited commemorative editions will use leather as the cover to make the book more precious and memorable.
Book Slipcase Printing & Back Process
The paper cover slipcase is color printed wrap paper, just like the normal book cover. Besides the normal printing, there are many back processes that can be done on the slipcase, such as color foil stamping, spot UV, embossing, debossing, etc. For cloth cover slipcase, because of the special type of cloth material, we use foil stamping instead of normal printing. We can do foil stamping for the book name, texts, and decoration. For artificial leather slipcase cover, we can not only do foil stamping, but also can do debossing or embossing.
How We Make a Book Slipcase?
We print the outside wrap paper then do lamination for the paper. After lamination, we do other back processes, such as foil stamping, spot UV, embossing, debossing, etc. If you choose a cloth cover, getting foil stamping or debossing is a good choice.
We die-cut and groove the gray board, then wrap and glue the outside paper on the grey board.
Next, we wrap and glue the inside wrap paper to the slipcase inside.
If the book slipcase needs to be opened with the thumb, we cut out the thumb after the above steps.
