Paper Options for Webcomic Anthology Printing

Choosing the right paper stock is one of the fastest ways to upgrade your webcomic anthology from “nice” to “collector-worthy.” At QinPrinting, you can mix paper types (for example: a premium cover + smoother inner pages) to match your art style and budget.

Cover Paper

  • Gloss Art Paper / Matte Art Paper (Coated Paper)
Best for full-color covers. Gloss gives maximum pop and contrast; matte feels more premium and reduces glare under strong lighting.

  • Specialty Paper (Optional for Deluxe Covers)
Holographic paper or premium-feel paper for limited editions—great when you want the cover to look and feel “different” in a fan’s hands.

Interior Paper

  • Matte Art Paper (Coated)
A top pick for webcomic interiors: rich color, crisp lines, and a smoother, “book-like” reading experience with less glare than gloss.

  • Gloss Art Paper (Coated)
Strong saturation and punchy color—ideal for bright palettes and high-contrast art styles.

  • Offset Paper (Uncoated)
A softer, more natural reading feel—excellent for text-heavy anthologies, bonus sketches, or behind-the-scenes notes. It’s also comfortable if readers like to annotate or write.

Binding Options for Webcomic Anthologies

Different anthologies need different bindings—page count, budget, and “collector vibe” all matter. We’ll help you match the right binding to your project.

sewn perfect binding
Perfect Binding (Softcover)

The go-to choice for most webcomic anthology books.

  • Clean, professional bookstore look

  • Works well for medium-to-high page counts

  • Great for multi-artist collections and longer story compilations

saddle stitch binding
Saddle Stitch (Stapled)

Best for thinner anthologies and zines.

  • Ideal for shorter page counts

  • Lays relatively flat

  • Great for convention sales, seasonal specials, and sampler books

hardcover binding
Case Binding (Hardcover)

For premium editions, Kickstarter rewards, and collector releases.

  • Strongest durability and best shelf presence

  • Perfect for “Volume 1” flagship editions

  • Can be paired with dust jackets, slipcases, ribbons, and more

Finishing Options

Finishing is where a webcomic anthology becomes a “wow, I need this on my shelf” book. You can keep it minimal—or go full deluxe with mixed techniques.

We’re always happy to discuss new formats or unusual specifications. If you don’t see what you’re looking for above, get in touch. Our team will be glad to help.

Recommended Printing Setups for Webcomic Anthologies

Full-Color Heavy Anthology

Full-Color Heavy Anthology (Most Popular Choice)

If your anthology is packed with full-color panels, gradients, and detailed shading, we recommend Matte Art Paper for the interior to keep colors rich while minimizing glare. Pair it with Perfect Binding (softcover) for a clean, professional spine and easy shelf display. For the cover, a Matte or Soft-Touch Lamination creates a premium feel and protects the artwork—perfect for convention sales and online store fulfillment.

Kickstarter / Collector's Edition (High-End Presentation)

For premium tiers and special editions, go with Hardcover Case Binding to create a true collectible. Enhance the cover with Foil Stamping (title/logo) and add an edge upgrade (Gilded Edges, Painted Edges, or Printed Edges) to instantly elevate shelf presence and unboxing appeal. A Dust Jacket adds artwork space and a bookstore-classic look, and a Slipcase makes the package feel like a high-end limited release.

We offer a 3% special discount for Kickstarter projects!

Kickstarter Collector's Edition (High-End Presentation)
Art-Forward Anthology (Gallery-Like Print Quality)

Art-Forward Anthology (Gallery-Like Print Quality)

If your anthology is designed to showcase illustration quality—full-page art, painterly rendering, or concept-art style pages—choose Matte Art Paper (or a premium interior stock) to preserve detail and smooth gradients. Hardcover works best for presentation and durability, while Spot UV or Foil + Embossing/Debossing can create a high-end cover that feels like an art book. This setup is ideal for limited runs and premium merch drops.

How to Check If Your PDF Is Ready for Printing

Use this simple checklist to make sure your PDF is suitable for book printing:

  • A 3 mm / 0.125 inch bleed is included if your artwork reaches the edge.
  • The PDF size matches your final trim size.
  • Fonts are embedded to avoid changes during printing.

For cover layout, spine width, or detailed export settings, you can download our professional templates in the online calculator or contact us to get a template for your book size.

Gilded Edges and Painted Edges

In softcover book production, the trimmed edges of the text block can be finished with decorative treatments.

  • Gilded edges are created by applying a thin layer of metallic foil—typically gold or silver, though other metallic colors are also available—giving the book a luxurious, polished look.
  • Painted edges are created by applying ink directly to the edges. These can be produced in solid colors, gradient tones, or with printed patterns and custom designs.

Endsheet Paper

  • If your book size is 8.5″ x 11″ or less with an interior page count of fewer than 320 pages, then a good option for the end sheets is 140 gsm / 95 lb offset paper.
  • If your book size is larger than 8.5″ x 11″, then 180 gsm / 122 lb offset paper would be better.

Dust Jacket

The dust jacket is the most common and practical cover for hardcover books. It can be used by itself as a removable cover, or placed over a hardcover that already has a printed image wrap, combining both for added protection and style.

It provides a total of ten printable surfaces—five on the outside and five on the inside. The two folded-in sections on each side are called flaps.
